Member Abigail Campbell recently authored an article, “The Case for Community-Connected Lawyering,” in the September 2026 issue of Headnotes, the official publication of the Dallas Bar Association.
In her article, Abigail makes the case that community involvement is more than a civic gesture; it is a genuine asset to a lawyer’s practice. Too often, engagement with the local community is treated as something adjacent to the real work of practicing law. Her piece argues the opposite: that showing up consistently, and without expectation of return, strengthens a lawyer’s judgment and deepens their relationships with the people and businesses they serve.
Drawing on her own experience with a local business navigating difficult circumstances, Abigail explains how staying connected to the community helps attorneys better understand the realities their clients face day to day—realities that don’t always surface in the ordinary course of legal work. That perspective leads to more grounded counsel and stronger advocacy across every area of practice, from litigation to transactional matters.
As Abigail writes, “The law does not operate in a vacuum and lawyers shouldn’t either.”
